The Island

A solo mission was never part of the plan

Home again will never be home again

The tide has turned this road into an end

We know the truth and I never could pretend

 

Dissolution of a promise

The final curtain falls upon this

Let it bleed into the night and watch it burn out in the sun                                     

Take it to the island that is furthest from your heart

Lay it down to rest and go right back to the start

I remember you, horse, racing waves across the beach

I remember the stars only just out of reach

 

I remember the ways losing time across shores

I remember our dreams, our little boat without oars

 

I remember the days, chasing sun across fields

I remember your hand on my face, how it feels

 

I remember those nights, burning long afternoons

I remember your voice and how we kissed the full moon

 

Oh, the tide has moved out now

Many sails have been torn

But no traveller is he who yesterday mourns

 

Still I remember the days singing only for you

I remember the ways opening up to the truth

 

I remember your words like a blade across my skin

I remember the tears and how they tore from within
