Wildflower
Folk acoustica with conscious lyrics and Americana undertones from progressive & rock celebrated, singer-songwriter, Heather Findlay.
Stripping it all back, Wildflower follows Findlay on a solo journey, exploring self-love and inner-growth.
Creating the seed bed for her signature, heart-led, melodic top lines to blossom, Wildflower sees Findlay laying an earthy foundation for herself with the trusty wood and wire of her acoustic guitar, scene changing piano and the subtle embrace of keys. The soaring uplift of occasional woodwind and the augmentation of bountiful vocal harmony work, are grounded by the underpinning pulse of tasteful kick drum and percussion throughout, serving to make Wildflower a colourful, yet holistic, sonic experience.
As the album's only guest, long time, musical compadre Troy Donockley lends a Cohen-esque vocal and Portuguese Mandola to the lilting duet, 'Still Burning'.
"Flowing with life and bowing to the muse, Wildflower has seemingly become a compendium of love letters. To the self, to the other, to the divine, to humanity, to my children, both inner and outer, to the dark, to the light, to animals, to nature and to our beautiful sky sailors of inspiration, the birds" ~ Heather
Ear-worm laden, mellow yet, foot tapping throughout, from southern drawly opener, 'You Light The Fire', to baroque ballad 'Ever True', to devotional, piano-led 'May It Be' and to the album's closest thing to epic, 'Arms Of Oak', a lighter, and lighter offering than Wild White Horses is Wildflower perhaps, but with the ever self re-inventing, heart following Findlay in the producer's seat, this is perhaps not such an unexpected change in direction...

Lyrics
Hi It's Just me - (Part 1)
(Findlay)
“Hi, it’s just me.
I know you’ve been having a tough time lately
And I just wanted to let you know that you’re not alone
And I’m here if you ever want to talk. I love you”.
You Light The Fire
(Findlay)
Why don’t you rest that heady heart?
It’s getting cold out there alone
C’mon inside it’s getting dark
Looks’ like rain’s about to fall
You light the fire, I’ll bring the wine
It’ll be just like old times
You write the words, I’ll sing the rhyme
I’m right here and I’ve got time for you
I’ve got time enough for you
Why don’t you rest that heady heart?
It’s getting cold in here alone
Bittersweet safety stayin’ apart
Not getting younger don’t you know
You light the fire, I’ll bring the wine
It’ll be just like old times
You write the words, I’ll sing the rhyme
I’m right here and I’ve got time for you
Yeah, I’ve got time enough for you
Time to unwind
And put the crazy world to rights
Time to align with all the love
That’s waiting to ignite and thrive, yeah
Why don’t you rest that heady heart
On my chest?
Thinking never hit the mark
C’mon inside it’s getting dark
Be growin’ old
Before you know
You light the fire, I’ll bring the wine
It’ll be just like, old times
You write the words, I’ll sing the rhyme
I’m right here and I’ve got time for you
I’ve got time enough for you (x 2)
I’ve got time enough for you
Yeah, I’ve got time enough for you
Wildflower
(Findlay)
You may believe that life is far too tricky for you
You may believe that you
Don’t have what it takes to get through
But, life’s a labour of love
You gotta love yourself first
Grow anywhere and be
Just like a wildflower
The recipe ‘Just add Sun’
Let go and grow simply
Just like a wildflower
The remedy ‘Just add Sun’
You may believe that life has no-one in it for you
You may believe that you
Won’t meet with the others approval
Well, they are only mirrors
So, why not love yourself first?
Grow anywhere and be
Just like a wildflower
The recipe ‘Just add Sun’
Let go and grow simply
Just like a wildflower
The remedy ‘Just add Sun’
You may believe that life has nothing in it for you
But, why not make believe that life
Is full of things you can choose?
Well, maybe it wouldn’t hurt
Come on and love yourself up!
Grow anywhere and be
Just like a wildflower
The recipe ‘Just add Sun’
Let go and grow simply
Just like a wildflower
The remedy ‘Just add Sun’
Trust in the sky to bring you water to drink
Trust in the earth to bring you ground you can
Sink your roots into real deep
Grow anywhere and be
Just like a wildflower
The recipe ‘Just add Sun’
Let go and grow simply
Just like a wildflower
The remedy ‘Just add Sun’
Now I See
(Findlay)
Can you hold me in all that I am?
And not judge me, or doubt me
As I walk less trodden paths?
Can you watch me crossing bridges
Trust they’re leading me back home
Without wondering that they’ll lead
So far away that I’ll be gone?
‘Cos the further that I walk
Only the closer we become
And all the times I ran
Was only running away from love
But, that’s what you are to me
That’s all you are, now I see
Now I see
Can you trust me to be who I am?
And not question, or hold me back
From walking my own path?
Can you watch me crossing bridges
Trust they’re leading me back home
Without worrying if they burn
That I’d be stranded and be lost?
‘Cos a thousand miles of walking
Only lead me to your door
And through all my worldly wandering
You were buried at my core
‘Cos, love’s what you are to me
That’s all you are, now I see
Now I see
Love’s what you are to me
That’s all you are, now I see
Now I see
Pure Love
(Findlay)
From the starry beyond time mystic yearnings
Bring the Sunlit golden mornings to a stirring
Sacred rays touch my soul
With a deepening beyond words
Where the peacock and the rose speak of your love
You put the sunshine in my heart
Then all is silence, a rhapsody of calm
One breath of heaven as it pours from your eyes
And I’m back in the flow of your light
And pure love
Pure love...
My heart, the opening of a rose
To your divine and endless river as it flows
Onwards to a diamond ocean ever deep
Where daily I will fall at the feet
Of pure love
Pure love...
For my tears, the turning of a tide
Past woes, future fears set alight
Every moment spent with you
Is a dawn that’ll rise but never break
Oh, let the beat of the drum
Dance me awake
To pure love
Pure love...
From the starry beyond time mystic yearnings
Bring the Moonlit silver evenings to a stirring
Sacred rays touch my soul
Ever deepening beyond words
Where the jasmine and the bull speak of your love
Blackbird
(Findlay)
There are times in life when there are no friends
And truth can't be found
And your eyes, they are blind unto the strength
That is always found on the inside
So blackbird, beautiful song bird
Our song's the same
And I've got a feeling
That if at the end of the day
You believe you're not far away
From one you love
Then you will be happy
So when you’re low
Look to that inward glow
And try to love yourself
Blackbird, love yourself
There are times when nights are cold, dark and long
When you're not strong
And you find there's no light
That's when you turn
To the one that is burning on the inside
So blackbird, beautiful song bird
Our song's the same
And I've got a feeling
That if at the end of the day
You believe you're not far away
From one you love
You will be happy, yeah
So when you're low
Look to that inward glow
And try to love yourself
Blackbird, love yourself
Not all of the things that you wish to believe
Are heavy, heavy with truth
Oh, but all of the things that you wish to achieve
They are out there waiting for you
Blackbird, beautiful songbird
Our song's the same
And I've got a feeling
Got a feeling
Blackbird, beautiful songbird
Our song's the same
Blackbird, love yourself
Blackbird
Blackbird, love yourself
Ever True
(Findlay)
Come and go here with ease, my love
Come and go as you please
Take my heart as you wander on
Return only, if you please
Set your sails for the seas, my love
May gentle be your breeze
Wear my heart on your sleeve, my love
But give not your promise to me
Dream your dreams and be free, my love
Dream of me, if you please
Empty your heart of desires only
Remember me, if you please
For tied are your strings not to me, my love
Nor tied are not mine to thee
But shelter and love you will find with me
No question, eternally
Walk with me if you please, my love
Beside, or apart from to me
Exist in life alongside of me
And tender our love shall be
Yes live, this life alongside of me
And ever true our love shall be
Still Burning - (feat Troy Donockley)
(Findlay)
Well, they say there’s no smoke without fire
Some days wood can’t be seen for the trees
Well, maybe the fire still burns
Maybe, all is not quite as it seems
All I know is that your hand
Feels like the one I’m supposed to hold
Still the salt in the well of these tears
Likely once rolled in oceans of old
I’m still burning
Still burning for the love
I’m still burning
And I’ve burnt
More than you’ll ever know
Well they say the moon’s leaving the earth
And there’s more galaxies than stars
And that Saturn is losing his rings
And one day a trip there won’t seem far
All I know is that this heart
Bears your name
And it’s sealed like a brand
Still the same blood
That flows through these veins
Likely once spilled for borders and lands
So, what’s all the fear about?
When I can’t seem to pick up the phone
All hung up over worry and doubt
Far too busy just being alone
Although…
I’m still burning
Still burning for your love
Still burning
And I’ve burnt
More than you’ll ever know
Well, they say there’s no smoke without fire
Some days wood can’t be seen for the trees
Well, maybe the fire still burns
Maybe, one call is all that it needs…
May it Be
(Findlay)
Maybe we’ll find a better place
Where maybe we’ll finally be awake
Where maybe we’ll see Your face
Daily
And maybe there love’s the only game
And maybe there’s no word for shame
Where everyone knows Your name
May it Be
Om
Om
May It be
And maybe there’ll be no need for war
‘Cos everyone’s stopped keeping score
Then maybe we’ll find Your open door
Easily
And maybe there’ll one day be retreat
Where maybe we’ll all find Your feet
And no one will have to bleed
For peace
Om
Om
May It be
Maybe we’ll finally hear the word
And maybe we’ll all sing like the birds
Where no one will have to burn
To be free
Where maybe we’ll find an open space
Where maybe we’ve finally cleaned the slate
Where maybe we’ll feel your grace
Constantly
Om
Om
May It be
Finally our stars will shine
Together we will rise
Finally the sun will rise
Together we will shine
All
(Om)
At Your feet
(Om)
Your
(Om)
Lotus feet
Appleseed
(Findlay)
Poppy seed you were
Watching you grow
Watching you grow
Appleseed came around
Plum stone
Avocado
All of the while
You and me
Like fruit on the tree
Like fruit on the tree
Riper now
Every day stronger you seem
May mighty Oaks reach
May mighty Oaks reach
Tiny hands, tiny feet
Reaching up, following
Following lead
So many changes
Tumble and rough
Toughening up
All of the while
You from me
Like fruit from the tree
Like fruit from the tree
Every day
Taller & taller you seem
Like mighty Oaks reach
Like mighty Oaks reach
Wildfire in your eyes
Time to run free
Time to run free
How the appleseed internally
Knew one day orchards
Orchards would be
May the Sun in you
Be your own search light
May the people you meet
Always treat you kind
Now making plans, folks to meet
May ever the wiser
Footprints you leave
Many a page to fill up
Go write your life’s story
Go fill up that book
Older and wiser
The world at your feet
May you always remember
‘fore you turn down your sheets
Shaking hands, holding hands
All grown up
May you always remember
You came here to love
May you always remember
You came here to love
Arms Of Oak
(Causer / Findlay)
I don't wanna lean
Don’t wanna leave
Just happy to be
In your company
I’m grateful to be by your side
Leaving the hurt and the pain behind
That’s all that I know
So, for now wrap me in your arms of oak
While the beauty of summer unfolds
Let this moment in time be ours to hold
‘Cos wherever we may be feels like home
Each day that goes by
The more I find
I’m here in my mind by the fire light
Got nowhere to be
There’s nothing I need
Just here in the flow
Sharing things we love
Leaving those that we don’t
So, for now wrap me in your arms of oak
While the pages of summer turn gold
Lay me down on this woodland floor
‘til the dawn and robin song calls…
When the trees undress
See them set the woodland floor on fire...
But for now, wrap me in your arms of oak
While the snowflake jewels the winter rose
Let the spring take its own sweet time to show
Like this story of ours
Burning slow
Like this story of ours
Being told
Love All
(Findlay)
Love all, trust few
Do harm to none
Be kind with your words
May your heart
Always be strong
In each moment life brings
There’s a little space
Where you can breathe
Maybe to remind you
The best things in life
Are still free
And that there is ending to love
There’s no ending to love
There’s enough in your heart
To fill the seas
Don’t wait for the words
Of someone else
Before you believe
That you already have
Everything you’ll ever need
Have courage
To take the first step
And you will see
That you have what it takes
Fly with the world your feet
And the stars will be
Right within reach
Keep the faith
That it’s all meant to be
Love all, trust few
Do wrong to none
Know what is for you
Will come to you
Let this be your song
Be wise, listen well
Silence in volumes can speak
Take good care of the dreams
That you weave
Trust that the stars
Will be right within reach
Keep the faith
That it’s all meant to be
Hi It's Just me - (Part 2)
(Findlay)
“Hi, it’s just me, returning your call
I got your message. And, yeah, it was really unexpected
And… well, I wasn’t expecting to hear from you...
Thank you. I appreciate everything that you said
And, um... let me know when you’re free
It will be great to get together
Yeah… I love you”.
