Kirtan Call - An evening of Bhakti Chanting in a Yorkshire Yurt

Especially as this space is tended with devotion by a beautiful friend.

Kirtan is a form of devotional singing, or Bhakti Yoga, where the Kirtan wallah, or chant caller (in this case me) calls out the tune’s phrase and the Kirtan chorus repeats the phrase and delivers the answer.
Bhakti, or devotional singing, is a beautiful method of accessing the heart space, and the ensuing peace and bliss one can feel during and after which.
As this HEARTSONG album journey unfolds, it’s clear there are two distinct expressions forming.
One is a collection of ‘song’ songs aka ‘HEARTSONG’, the other is a collection of chants, to be called ‘Frame Of Heart’.
The latter being the expression we’ll be exploring on 30th October, 7-9pm in a Yorkshire Temple Yurt.
Some chants revere Indian deities, some Peruvian plant medicine, some our own beloved native rose, and some simply revere our beautiful Mother Earth.
All offer deep gratitude for the love and medicine they bring our way.
You are invited to come as you are, with your hearts, voices and an open mind, ready to co-create some high vibes, and to be enchanted in song and spirit.
Kirtan Call?
I love that this play on words came through when considering announcing this event.
A curtain call happens ‘after the performance’. Kirtan is not about performance. A willingness to sing from the heart is all that is required. No perfection. No wrapped knuckles for ‘mistakes’. Just showing up and giving voice. That’s all.
Another beautiful thing about a curtain call is that it involves bowing. A form of surrender. The only real prerequisite for Kirtan, I guess. 🙏
